Sri Lanka Railways trade unions say that the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation is planning to get the private sector involved to develop railway stations without a proper tender process.
But according to NewsFirst, GM Railways, Mr. Dilantha Fernando stated that they received a proposal from a private company and they are still reviewing the proposal.
Here is the list of Railway Stations that would privatize and develop under the new plan:

- Maradana
- Ragama
- Gampaha
- Veyangoda
- Kandy
- Kurunegala
- Negombo
- Anuradhapura
- Nanuoya
- Ella
